Is an eye injection painful?
Short answer: most patients feel little or no pain. The eye is one of the most easily numbed parts of the body, and the injection itself takes seconds.
Before — numbing and preparation
We use powerful anaesthetic drops (no injection of anaesthetic). Your eye is also dilated and cleaned with povidone-iodine antiseptic. The whole prep takes about 10 minutes.
During — what you actually feel
When the medicine goes in, most patients describe: brief pressure, a tiny sting, or a sense of coolness. The injector itself is incredibly fine — far smaller than a typical vaccination needle. The whole step lasts seconds and most patients are surprised at how quick it is.
After — recovery and aftercare
Your eye may feel slightly gritty or watery for the rest of the day. You may notice a small red patch where the needle went in. This is normal and resolves within a week. You can return to most normal activities right away; we ask you to avoid swimming and eye rubbing for 48 hours.
